By the time most people start looking, the close-in rooms are gone or priced like it’s a holiday.

A camper sidesteps all of that. You get your own bathroom, your own kitchen, and a basecamp you control — which matters when half your group is rolling in late on a Friday. And because Fort Collins is built tight around Horsetooth Reservoir and the Cache la Poudre canyon, you don’t have to camp far away to be close to the action.

• Horsetooth Reservoir (Larimer County campgrounds) — My first recommendation for this weekend. It’s roughly 15–20 minutes from Old Town, the sites can handle a delivered trailer, and you wake up over the water. Book these early — September is still busy out there.
• Lory State Park — On the west side of Horsetooth, quieter, good if your group wants hiking or mountain biking around festival time. Sites here run smaller, so I match you to a rig that fits.
• Up the Poudre Canyon (Ansel Watrous, Mountain Park, Stove Prairie) — A little farther up CO-14, more of a “we want the mountains too” play. Beautiful in September, but it’s a longer drive back into town, so I only steer folks here if Tour de Fat is one stop on a bigger trip.
• A private driveway or property in town — If you’ve got a friend in Fort Collins, Timnath, or Windsor with space and we can confirm hookups or a generator plan, I can deliver right there. This is the closest you’ll get to New Belgium with an RV.
